Throughout history, compassion has been a central theme in many religious and philosophical traditions. Jesus demonstrated compassion by healing and feeding the multitudes (Matthew 9:36; 14:13-21). For faithful Muslims, compassion is one of God's most important attributes and should extend to all people, regardless of their background or beliefs. Confucius regarded compassion as one of the key virtues of heaven, while for Buddha, compassion (karuna) is fundamental and involves not just empathy, but wise actions to alleviate suffering.
We have all experienced losses and challenges that have brought us to our knees and kept us awake at night. None of us is exempt from suffering. However, we find that our own pain diminishes when we extend compassion to others. Helping those whose suffering seems greater than our own can somehow ease our own burdens.
Our ongoing efforts to deliver glucometer supplies to children in Venezuela have brought smiles to over 400 children. Recently, a clinic for men and women with severe renal deficiencies requested a glucometer to measure their patients' glucose levels. Driven by compassion, Yvonne, our representative in Caracas, provided one. She discovered that 200 patients at the clinic are in dire circumstances and sent pictures to show the impact of our collective compassion.
We continue our mission with compassion in our hearts and hope for a better future for all. If you wish to donate, you can send a check to Waterfall Humanitarian Foundation, 1226 Tierney Circle, Sandy, Utah 84094, or donate via Zelle at 801-448-3018.
